McKinney startup is selected to pitch at Google Demo Day 2018

McKinney-based ShearShare has secured a coveted spot (along with 11 other startups) to pitch at the sixth annual Google Demo Day on March 28.

Google for Entrepreneurs is sponsoring this event at their San Francisco office, inviting startups from North and South America to pitch for a group of Silicon Valley investors.

“Innovation is alive and well across the country and around the world, not just in Silicon Valley,” said Genna McKeel, partnerships manager at Google for Entrepreneurs, in a press release. “By showcasing some of the best startups from across the Americas at Google Demo Day, we can help these great entrepreneurs connect with leading investors to grow and accelerate their businesses.”

At the event, ShearShare and the other startups will be given four minutes to pitch, followed by a Q&A session with a panel of judges. Prior to the pitching event, startups will be mentored by a team of experts and Google mentors to prepare.

ShearShare is a B2B mobile application that allows stylists to rent office space by the day in various cities throughout the world. ShearShare connects 1.2 million beauty and barbering professionals to different salons in order to diminish the amount of unused chairs.

TD Lowe, ShearShare’s advisor and partner at 42Phi Ventures, referred the local startup to participate in this opportunity through her client Startup Grind, a member of the Google for Entrepreneurs Partner Network.

“Receiving investment from GFE Demo Day will allow us to hire well and increase exposure,” wrote ShearShare co-founders Dr. Tye and Courtney Caldwell in an email. “We are hyper-focused on growth, product, and team and continuing to build trust in our community.”

In order to be eligible to participate in Demo Day, startups must be based in North or South America, raised at least $100,000, seeking to raise $1-5 million within six months of the event and demonstrated potential through growth, revenue and funding.

  • GenivityChicago, Ill. Platform that tracks family health risks to help financial advisors.
  • IncreaseBuenos Aires, Argentina. Fintech company that empowers businesses and simplifies how they control their income.
  • Linked SeniorWashington, D.C. Platform to connect older adults to serve as a therapeutic practice.
  • ObsessNew York City, N.Y. Creates a mobile, virtual reality retail experiences.
  • RowbotMinneapolis, Minn. A self-driving farm machine that also collects data.
  • SkywatchWaterloo, Ontario. Provides free and commercial satellite data.
  • UnimaGuadalajara, Jalisco. Technology that diagnoses a disease without using lab equipment and provides results within 15 minutes.

“The advice we would give to other startups that want to get connected with GFE in the future is simple: get involved with your local startup community and do the hard work of serving your customers,” wrote the Caldwells.
