In honor of Juneteenth, Apple’s App store listed ShearShare as one of their 2022 Editor’s Choice. The list consists of helpful apps for understanding and celebrating the holiday in a more meaningful way. They elevate both the vaunted and the hidden heroes who remind us all that freedom—and the fight to keep it—is not to be taken for granted. ShearShare is honored to be included as a top black-owned app to commemorate this national holiday.
The History of Juneteenth
Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, starting the long process of ending slavery in the United States. But it wasn’t until two and a half years later that all enslaved people actually went free.
On June 19, 1865, Texas became the last state to recognize the end of slavery—a milestone celebrated today as Juneteenth, or Freedom Day. ShearShare honors the history that led to that day, as well as the hard-earned victories that have followed.
