Just released by the Buffalo Business Journal: Nearly half of the businesses in Western New York come from just four industries.
Those fields are retail trade; accommodation and food services; health care and social assistance; and other services (excluding public administration), according to U.S. Census Bureau’s 2020 county business patterns data. NOTE: Beauty and barbering falls under “other services.”
It’s true. We make up the bulk of many local economies. Just walk three blocks in any direction in your city and count how many salons, spas, barbershops, or salon suites you see. In Buffalo, New York, where ShearShare recently opened its new office, those four industries make up 16,611 of the total 34,485 businesses in the region.
The good news is that with this knowledge, we can also support those small businesses sooner so that when the market turns, the neighborhood resurgence won’t take as long to hit our local communities.
