Connecticut, Rhode Island Delay Salon Opening Until Early June

Shortly after coordinator for the President’s coronavirus task force Dr. Deborah Birx cautioned governors about including salons in Phase 1 re-openings, Governor Ned Lamont of Connecticut and Governor Gina Raimondo of Rhode Island announced that they’re moving the official reopening date of hair salons and barbershops from May 20 to early June.

Governor Lamont tweeted the news shortly before announcing it during his live press conference on May 18th.

“You can’t do this two days before opening, we took all precautions,” one stylist tweeted. The news comes as a shock to stylists who have been sanitizing their spaces, rescheduling clients and mentally preparing for reopening after nearly two months of lockdown.

“I know how hard this crisis has been on close-contact businesses like hair salons and barbershops, and we’re working around the clock to get you back to work quickly and safely. We look forward to continuing to coordinate with our regional partners are we work toward reopening these businesses in early June,” Governor Raimondo added in the official press release
