The third episode of the season features NYC salon and barbershop owner Vince Alfano, whose family has serviced the SOHO area for over 35 years. Vince’s day job is a TV and music producer, but when his mother passed away, he readily stepped in to take over management of his family’s iconic hair salon to keep it going. He runs a hybrid model currently and relies on the power of community to keep both staff and clients happy. When asked what advice he would offer the next generation of salon and barbershop owners, Vince shared the following:
- Go out into the world and meet people. Build partnerships with local hotels and storefronts to drive more clients your way.
- Take the time to be personable with not just your staff but also the clients. Meeting for coffee, organizing a group outing, etc., goes a long way in building those relationships.
- Don’t fret about mastering social media to drive foot traffic. Think outside the box and offer your hair salon to local musicians and comedy acts to attract folks to your space. NOTE: you can rent out your entire salon space for events on ShearShare!
