ShearShare Shines a Spotlight on Barbers at the CT Barber Expo

The Connecticut Barber Expo (CTBE) is the Superbowl of the barbering world and ShearShare was there to hobnob with the best and brightest the industry has to offer! In its 11th year, the CTBE is a chance for barbers to celebrate their accomplishments, network, and learn from one another in a fun and organic way.

2022 Barber Grammys

The event kicked off with the 2022 Barber Grammys, a way to honor barbers making big moves inside their shops, in their communities, and online. According to the founder of the CTBE Jay Majors, the Grammys seeks the top barber influencers, movers, and shakers in the industry but it can be tricky narrowing down the nominees because of the abundance of qualified individuals. “If we were to nominate all of the Barbers making moves in the industry, the awards night would easily become a month-long event.” ShearShare co-founder, Dr. Tye Caldwell, had the honor of presenting the Creative Content of the year award to Victorino Stylo, a master barber that resides in his home country of Puerto Rico.

Dr. Tye’s Educational Seminar

The expo had an action-packed schedule for the remaining two days including barber battles, over 350 vendors, and educational seminars full of technical barbering expertise and business advice. The educational seminars featured some of the industry’s most respected educators, including our very own Dr. Tye. He started his seminar with a moment of silence to honor the victims of the mass shooting in Buffalo, NY – the new home of ShearShare headquarters.

He then went on to explain that a career in barbering is a great choice because the lifestyle, grooming, and wellness industry is the most profitable niche market in 2022! “Despite what politicians labeled us as, during the pandemic, we are ALL essential,” Dr. Tye said to his audience. Regardless of how much experience you have in the industry, your personal brand is your business, according to Dr. Tye. “It’s your responsibility to make sure you’re learning all aspects of the business.” He proceeded to go over statistics that all cosmetologists and barbers need to know to keep clients coming back for more. Some of the statistics included were:

  • 48% of consumers say that the most critical time to gain their loyalty is during their first service
  • 64% of people cite “shared values” as the main reason they have a relationship with a stylist
  • 86% of clients will pay more for a better customer experience

ShearShare Loves Giving Back

With 30 years of experience as a barber, Dr. Tye enjoys sharing what he’s learned throughout his career with others. “It was an honor to give an educational presentation at CTBE,” said Dr. Tye Caldwell. “I had the chance to infuse the wisdom and knowledge I’ve attained from this industry into pertinent information for those that attended my class. I believe I gave them some great next steps, but more so, I hope that they have more faith in themselves, and in the future of our industry.”
